My first body painting: I may have been a bit ambitious on this one.

Oh my God, this is just as much fun as I thought it might be, even if I did start rather ambitiously on my first attempt.

I decided to come up with a concept on my iPad first, so that I wasn’t just stabbing in the dark. This was what I came up with:

Pretty cool. Why not?

I got all my paints out, got to work, realized very quickly just how different it is to paint a human body, and in the end, I came up with this:

What I didn’t know:

Painting flesh colored art on top of flesh, that has to match that flesh, is tricky at best. Trying to match the skin color was so time-consuming. I ended up mixing together like 6 different colors to finally get it. Then, to make it look like actual fingers instead of a flat 2D painting took a lot of know-how I didn’t quite have yet.

In the end, I was happy with it for a first attempt.

If I were to do it over again, I would work on somehow making the lines crisper. The trickiest part of that was that there aren’t a lot of really harsh lines in real life.

I did love doing it though. I learned very quickly that it’s an incredible form of meditation. It’s very difficult to think about anything else when I’m concentrating so hard on what I am doing.
